What is SUDEP?

SUDEP refers to the sudden, unexpected, and non-traumatic death of a person with epilepsy who was otherwise healthy, where no other structural or toxicological cause of death is found.

While it is a rare occurrence, it is one of the leading causes of death in people with uncontrolled seizures. Despite its impact, SUDEP is often not widely understood or discussed as openly as it needs to be.
