Books On Mayne is a small used and new bookstore at 574B Fernhill Road, in the Fernhill Centre on Mayne Island, BC. The shelves are mostly good-quality used fiction and non-fiction, with a curated mix of new titles and a children's section, so there is something for every age, interest and budget. Look for local history, books by island authors, mysteries, science fiction and regional titles, plus local original art, cards and CDs by island musicians. The owner is happy to take special orders, book clubs get a discount on three or more copies of a title, and the book adoption policy lets you trade in your old books for store credit. It is an easy stop on a Fernhill Road wander, next to the other Fernhill Centre shops and a short walk from Farm Gate Store. Hours change with the season, so check before you visit.

Donna Dubock Art Gallery

Donna Dubock Art Gallery is the studio and gallery of painter Donna Dubock at 209 Mariners Way in Village Bay on Mayne Island, BC. Donna paints mixed media works on canvas and paper, mostly abstract with a touch of realism, inspired by the nature of the region: local birds, shoreline wildflowers and Gulf Islands landscapes, often in bold reds, turquoises and golds. Along with original paintings she offers prints, cards and gift items. Her roadside stand and her waterfront studio, The Villa, are open to visitors, and her work has also been shown at Artcraft on Salt Spring Island and at Saanich Municipal Hall. Farm Gate Store is an organic grocery store and deli at 568 Fernhill Road on Mayne Island, BC, stocking local, organic and handmade food. Seasonal produce, eggs and lamb come from the store's own Deacon Vale Farm here on Mayne, and much of the rest comes from farmers on neighbouring islands and around the region. You will find organic milk in returnable glass bottles, local meats and cheeses, European specialty foods and pantry staples, plus natural body and home care products, fair-trade toys and crafts, and dog food. The deli makes sandwiches, soups and hummus daily, with bread from local bakers, and there is indoor and outdoor seating surrounded by local art. Staff will special-order things you cannot find, and they probably know who makes it. It is a handy stop for visitors stocking a cottage kitchen and a regular shop for islanders. Call 250-539-3700.

Fernhollow Farm is a small family farm with a self-serve farm stand in the barn at 540 Fernhill Road on Mayne Island, BC. Head up the driveway to the barn to find fresh eggs, jams, preserves, herbs and vinegars, all made with produce from the farm. It is a classic Gulf Islands farm stand stop for picking up breakfast eggs or a jar of something homemade to take home. Keep an eye on the pasture too: the farm is home to Highland cows, including Daisy the bull, and two rescue mini ponies named Frodo and Sam. As with most farm stands on the island, what is available depends on the season, so it is worth checking the Fernhollow Farm Facebook page for updates. You can reach the farm by email at lindabeer@shaw.ca.

Hours: Like most self-serve farm stands on Mayne Island, as long as the driveway gate is open during daylight hours, visitors are welcome to head up to the barn stand to shop!

Mayne Island Building Centre is the island's Home Hardware store, a full-service hardware store and lumber yard at 652 Fernhill Road on Mayne Island, BC. It stocks building supplies, tools, hardware, paint, housewares, kitchenware, small appliances, toys and BBQ supplies, plus a garden centre with plants, soils, garden tools and garden furniture. Seasonal equipment rentals are available, and the store rents e-bikes by the day or the week, which make Mayne's hills much easier for visitors without a car. Whether you are building a deck, fixing a dripping tap at the cabin or picking up potting soil, this is where islanders go. The store is open seven days a week, with shorter hours on Sundays, and hours may shift with the seasons.

Mayne Island Clay Works

Mayne Island Clay Works is a pottery studio and gallery at 652 Fernhill Road on Mayne Island, BC, in the house on the hill beside Home Hardware. It is home to two artists, Kim Korol Studio and Kristine Webber Ceramics, and you can buy their work straight from the people who made it. Expect functional pottery, sculptural vessels and ceramic tables, handmade architectural tile, and the studio's water-wise terracotta garden ollas. An olla is a porous clay pot you bury in the garden and fill with water, so it slowly waters the roots around it. Each Mayne Clay olla is 32 cm tall, holds about 6.5 litres and waters roughly a 4 by 4 foot raised bed. The studio is open whenever the artists are working: drop in if the lights are on or the open sign is out, or email mayneclay@gmail.com for an appointment. Park at Home Hardware.

Twice a year, Mayne Island’s artists, artisans and food makers open their doors. On November 7 & 8, 2026, the Fall Studio Tour features 22 stops and more than 35 creators across the island, from painters, potters and jewellers to glass artists, farm stands and a 17-artist pop-up gallery. Free and self-guided, 10 am to 4 pm both days. Bring cash, as not every stop takes cards. Presented by Gardenia Collective and the Southern Gulf Islands Arts Council. The bustling heart of Mayne Island every Saturday morning from the May long weekend to Thanksgiving. Held on the grounds of the historic Agricultural Hall in Miners Bay, this beloved market brings together local farmers, bakers, artisans and craftspeople. Browse fresh organic produce, fresh baking, island preserves, hot food, cut flowers and handmade gifts while enjoying live music from local buskers. While you are there, visit the Mayne Island Museum and the Thrift Store, which are both open during market hours right on the grounds. Island Tip: Bring reusable bags and cash. Parking gets tight, so please park mindfully and avoid blocking private driveways. When walking to and from the market, walk on the left side of the road (facing oncoming traffic) so drivers can easily see you.

Meadowmist Farm

Meadowmist Farm is a working sheep and goat farm at 380 Merryman Drive on Mayne Island, BC, about a mile from the Village Bay ferry terminal and right below Mount Parke. Sheep and goats have been the main animals on its 23 acres in a fertile valley since 1988, and the farm's animals supply fibre, food and fun. The farm sells sheepskin and wool products: washable pelts in white and natural colours, natural-coloured yarn and socks, rovings and pencil rovings for spinning or felting, and wool duvets and pillows. Its creamy goat's milk soaps are made with natural and essential oils and are gentle on sensitive skin. Lamb can be pre-ordered by the half or whole animal, cut, wrapped and frozen, and mutton sausage is also available. Owners Mike and Kim grow Hidcote Culinary Lavender (L. angustifolia), a beautifully fragrant variety prized for its sweet, delicate floral flavor that is ideal for baking, teas, cooking, and cocktails. Alongside their culinary lavender, they cultivate a seasonal selection of fresh herbs and produce throughout the growing season. Limited quantities are available directly through the farm, locally at Active Pass Gas Station or online through Bumbleseeds.

Terrill Welch Gallery

Terrill Welch Gallery is a small art gallery at 428 Luff Road on Mayne Island, BC, showing original landscape and seascape paintings by Canadian painter Terrill Welch. The paintings hang in a self-browse gallery pod at her home studio, with oil paintings and acrylic sketches of the Salish Sea shoreline, Mayne Island and the West Coast. Her work is in collections across Canada, the United States, Europe, England and Australia, and you can buy directly from the artist. In summer (June to August) the gallery pod is open daily from 11 am to 4 pm for walk-in browsing with no appointment needed. From September to May, visits are by appointment or by chance, and pop-up openings are posted on Facebook. Arriving by float plane or boat at Miners Bay? Get in touch and Terrill may be able to meet you and drive you to the gallery. Call 250-744-4560 or email tawelch@shaw.ca.

The Healing Place creates handmade drums, art, jewellery, and useful goods inspired by and made from the animals and lands they work with. They specialize in handmade drums, from small hand drums and tom-toms to large pow-wow drums, using natural hides from elk, bison, and other animals. Drums are available raw or individually painted, and they also create commissioned pieces. Their other work reflects a commitment to using the whole animal. Depending on what is available, you'll find pieces made from fallow deer, elk, bison, bear, and other animals, including rattles, necklaces and malas, skull and antler wall pieces, hides and hide work, bones, and other natural materials incorporated into artwork and functional pieces. They also make their own fallow tallow skincare, along with original paintings and artwork on wood, jewellery, t-shirts, and an ever-changing collection of one-of-a-kind pieces. Much of what they make is unique because they work with the materials available to them rather than mass-producing a fixed catalogue. If you're looking for a drum, a particular piece, or would like to discuss a commission, please get in touch.

Tru Value Foods is a full-service grocery store at 472 Village Bay Road on Mayne Island, BC. It calls itself Canada's tiniest supermarket, and it packs a lot into a small space: a full-service deli, fresh meat, fresh and organic produce, bulk foods, frozen foods, dairy and pantry staples. If you don't see something on the shelves, the staff are happy to have you ask. It is where most islanders do their weekly shop, and it is the easy stop for visitors filling a cottage fridge or picking up deli items for a beach picnic. At the till you can choose a local island cause or charity, and the store puts a share of its proceeds toward the causes shoppers pick. Tru Value is open seven days a week, with shorter hours on Sundays. Holiday hours can differ, so call ahead if you are arriving on a long weekend.
